Remind Me Who I Am

While many of us spent today thanking God for Friday, I know some of us had to thank God for making us His. I know I did both! Some days make it easier than others to momentarily forget who we are in Him. You know those days:your twistout puffs up at the door, you experience rejection on the job, your significant other or spouse (sometimes unintentionally) treats you like a doormat, you lock your keys in the car…again, you’ve got a cycle of negative thoughts running circles in your mind. Suddenly, what was unshakable faith turns to a rickety roller-coaster of emotion. When a case of forgetfulness hits try these:
1. Go back to the Word. On days when I’m feeling discouraged, I turn to the Bible as a love letter from God. He’s sprinkled reminders of who we are and what He thinks of us all over that thing! Feeling unloved? You are a child of God. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name. John 1:12. Feeling worthless? You were created by Him to do good things. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepares beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10.

2. Pray, pray, and pray some more. Ask Him to show you His love or to reveal Himself to you. You know that saying, “Closed mouths don’t get fed” well, you’ll still get “fed” but you are more likely to receive His confirmation when you ask. Think about how comfortable some of us are fishing for compliments from our friends and family - why not boldly ask the one who knows better than anyone else?
3. Exercise your gifts. We’ve all been blessed with unique abilities. This one can be tough on days when you are feeling less than stellar about yourself and/or your abilities. Still, you’d be surprised at what a lift you’ll get from just doing the thing you know you’re best at when you’re down. Instead of turning to something to “make you feel better” why not do the thing that makes you the best. Whether that gift is drawing, writing, comforting others, problem-solving, teaching…stretch it and put it to use; I guarantee you will feel a difference in your mood.
Keep smiling and stay free!
